Thank you very much for taking time to come to my husband’s memorial service, which shows your love to Chao-Dong, and comfort and support to me, my children and all of Chao-Dong’s extended family. Chao-Dong’s soul in heaven must be happy and satisfied. You have spoken a lot about what kind of person my husband was. I’d like to say what Chao-Dong means to me and to my family. Chao-Dong left us three days before Father’s Day. This year my children and myself have, as always, bought him a present and a card, getting ready to celebrate it for him, albeit at his hospital bedside, but we haven’t been able to fulfil this wish. Chao-Dong is a man of affections. The meaning of Father’s Day grows more evident and profound. Seven years ago, he was deeply moved by the song Butterfly Kiss, considering that children would one day become adults and leave home. Three years ago, he sighed that the father is actually a lonely character, but two years ago he said “As a matter of fact the father is a kind of lucky person. Why not by a father? As a father, who wouldn’t thank God for his Grace?” He also joked that “Some grateful people say that I can’t do enough to thank you in this life and I’ll be your horse in my future life. I’ve found that I don’t need to wait for my future life. I am the horse in this present life now.” You’ve done more than you said. On Father’s Day two years ago, I wrote a blog to say that it’s not easy to be a father, and he replied “At different times a man can be a son, a friend, a lover, a husband, a father, even a grandfather, … , feeling different kinds of love and being loved, getting fulfilled with different kinds of emotions, which is such a pleasant experience. Dear Chao-Dong, you once said to me: “you’re so good and can make any man better whoever you marry.” But then you changed to “You can only marry me. I’m most suitable for you and we’re most suitable for each other”. Even when you were seriously ill, you told me “you’re not wrong marrying me. At least you are never bored”. Well I had to agree. Yeah, only I know how important you are to me. You were not only the children’s taxi driver but also my full time chauffer. Whenever you were at home during a weekday you always fetched me home for lunch and took me back to work. My darling, I have too much to say. I could write a thick book about you. Your life is so colourful and I won’t be bored reading you. Darling, I want to say to you you’re outstanding as a man, a son, a friend, a lover, a husband, a father, a colleague and a co-worker. I thank you for accompanying me for the first half of my life. Thank you for giving me a home, a sweet home owned by us, full of tender love, understanding and care, encouragement and liveliness, that our children can rely on. My darling, a friend said “do you feel that heaven is closer now since he’s already there?” Yes, I don’t feel we’re far apart because you’re not gone and you always live in my heart. My darling, I want to say to you. I’ll go all out to complete what you wanted to do. Your friends are all helping me to achieve this goal. You can surely rest in peace. I love you, always.
