Meeting Chao Dong

I was an undergraduate in Oxford. I remember vividly seeing a slide show with a picture of a jumbo jet. The Christian speaker was explaining how many international students landed in the UK, many having never heard about Jesus Christ. I had recently become a Christian and knew what a difference Christ had made to me. I offered to be a host for an international student from China, as I'd made some Chinese friends while a student. It was, I think, in 1989, that I was put in touch with Chao Dong. He was studying in London, I was then working with IBM and living in Twickenham. I tried to cook Chinese food. Chao Dong came into the kitchen to help me. Shao Xia was still in China. Chao Dong's openness, infectious enthusiasm, kindness and smile are things I'll never forget.
