Soon after meeting Chao Dong, I invited him, along with a number of other friends, to a holiday in the Lake District. I lent Chao Dong some waterproofs. It often rains in the Lakes. We went for a walk one wild and windy day on St. Sunday Crag. The wind was buffeting at 60mph (c. 100kph). At one point, hail stones started pelting. The wind was so strong that the hailstones were blown up the mountain. Like little bullets, they battered waterproofs and stung on any exposed skin. All Chao Dong could say - so tactful and kind - was "Very interesting! Very interesting!"
